Find your inner voice and shout

In one of the direct interactions with Dr. Broussalian as I was starting my journey, I expressed the wish to translate some recently found material from English into French. For instance, Edward Whitmont’s Psyche and Substance, which Dr. Broussalian held in great esteem, was not available to a French speaking public. Dr. Broussalian then suggested I should join an existing team of students and former students who were engaged in the translation of the five-volume compendium by Dr. David Little. I hence contributed the first three chapters of volume 1, two chapters in Volume 3 and one chapter in Volume 4 over the following 4 months. I added original pictures taken at the Hahnemann monument in Washington, DC, since I was the only Washingtonian of the small group working in France and Switzerland. That work pushed me further than my taking classes in the first year of the three-year curriculum and I had to interact with more senior students and experienced practitioners.

The encounter with senior homeopaths, the education through the classes, my own readings and quick maturing during the pandemic confirmed my urge to embrace a new career. In April 2022 I had the chance to meet face to face Dr. Farokh Master during the Joint America Homeopathic conference (JAHC). I was privileged to attend a consultation he gave to a couple with an autistic 4-year old boy and ask him questions. This encounter made me feel I wanted to emulate him.

I found that my training as an economist had prepared me well for my new career. You must ask the right questions, get enough of a hint without asking for a complete surrender. An inquisitive mind helps, churning knowledge captured when you stand on the shoulders of your elders, learning from them, but also build up your own inner view of the disease. Minute signals are as important as glaring ones for all to see. Keep a respectful space for the patient, be smart enough to grasp quickly what is not to seen, what is not said. Never forget that obvious things are not always obvious, and the analysis should be re-examined if the symptoms do not square with the bear minimum admitted. Be smart and nimble, observe and observe again.
